Why I Love Kansas City Winters

Next month Nick and I will have been living here in Kansas City for 6 years. Crazy to think it’s been that long! Anyway, after 6 winters here I’ve grown to really love the KC way of “doing” winter. Granted, last year was crazy snowy and kinda fun at first, but that’s not the new norm here (I hear that’s how winter was here 20 years ago though). The norm I’ve experienced here is a lot like what we experienced here this weekend….

Friday afternoon, we spent time at the zoo. It was almost 60 degrees and gorgeous!

Chase even took some time to charm a python. Lovely, huh?

On Saturday a cold front started to move in… by the time we left for church that evening it was in the teens and windy! Brrrr!! Later that night it started to snow. Yesterday morning, so under 48 hours after we’d be at the zoo, the boys were begging to go outside and play in the snow. It was 15 degrees with a wind chill of -1. I held them off as long as I could, but eventually succumbed to their pleas!

And of course, the very first thing they wanted to do was throw snow at me!

We only lasted outside for about 20 minutes before the boys were cold and I was even colder. This snow will probably be gone in a day or two and it’ll warm back up into the 40’s so it won’t feel so bad outside. All winter we will likely have those 50-60 degree days scattered in between little blasts of cold. It’s a pretty sweet way to do winter, I think!
