Why I Haven’t Posted Until Now

You see that cute baby there? She is the reason I haven’t posted. Know why? Because she’s not sleeping again. AHHHHHHH!!!

She woke up at about 5:30 this morning (after having just eaten at 4:30) and has slept maybe an hour total since then. Considering it is now 2pm here, that means she’s been awake for almost 8.5 hours. I’m going crazy. The boys are highly annoyed. And Lily is tired. I know she is. She may try to tell me she’s not, but then I catch her doing this and I know she’s tired….

So much for our newly purchased sound machine having magical powers. Although, I will confess that at least she’s now laying in her crib, quietly looking around. That’s better than crying and screaming like she was earlier.

Oh Lily. Please go to sleep. Please!

  • I found your blog when I was pregnant with my triplet boys and peek in every now and then to see your cute kids. I also used to be a RN in the neonatal ICU and thought I might offer some hints. You probably already know and tried these BUT just in case! Does she like to be swaddled? Even if she cries at first usually a TIGHT swaddle at this age really helps calm them and they usually fall asleep. Have you seen the Woombie? It is a great product to keep them all bundled and secure. Another idea is a Moby wrap or some other kind of wrap that would keep her snuggled in tight against you. Probably not ideal to have to carry her all day but worth a try! I saw you tried the vacuum, a hairdryer also works wonders! I don’t know if your boys had reflux issues but if she is awake and screaming all day it could be because of that. I know you are breast feeding, sometimes too much dairy in your diet can cause your baby to have reflux and be very fussy and unhappy. Try letting her sleep in a swing or bouncy so she is elevated. I hope this helped a little. I also hope she gets to sleep for you soon! I can’t imagine adding a fourth to my trio! God BLESS you!!ReplyCancel

    • Hi Jamie,

We swaddle her all the time. She isn’t a fan initially but then usually calms down and falls asleep. This whole randomly awake for 7-8 hours at a time thing is stumping us though! Thankfully she doesn’t do it all the time, but when she does it is exhausting.

I’ve never heard of the Woombie – I’ll have to look that up!

I do the Moby trick sometimes, but if she falls asleep in it I can’t take her out without her waking up and I’ve learned from experience that if I wear her for more than 4 hours my back is KILLING me. Often after these marathon awake sessions she sleeps for 5-6 hours straight.

I’ve wondered about the reflux thing a few times based on the way she arches her back when she’s upset, but I feel like she isn’t spitting up all that much. Could it still be reflux even without the spit up?ReplyCancel

  • Go to sleep, little baby.ReplyCancel

  • Arching her back is a sign of reflux. Not all babies spit up a lot. Even just wet burps can be reflux. Signs to look for: Coughing, gagging, getting irritable when eating (or shortly after). If she arches and appears to hold her breath. If she cries out suddenly after feedings. I would tell your Pediatrician at your next check up and see what they think. I hope you figure it out and she sleeps soon!ReplyCancel
