Our Visit to Powell Gardens

I’ve lived in Kansas City for over 8 year nows (whoa!), and there are still so many places I’ve yet to explore. One place I’ve been dying to go to for a few years now is Powell Gardens. While my parents were here last month, we were looking for something to do the next day, and I remembered Powell Gardens has a Lego exhibit this summer. Sold!

The next morning we packed the kids into the van and made the 30 minute trek to Powell Gardens for a fun morning. We didn’t tell the boys where we were going, just that it would be awesome and they would love it. Turned out we were right!

Lawn crew, at your service! (Yep, made out of Legos!)

I’m pumped about that lily pad picture! Ever since we brought Lily home from the hospital, we’ve talked about making a “Lily’s Pad” sign for her room, and now I’ve got the perfect canvas for one! I’ll add a little text and am going to order a canvas of this photo today! I’ll be sure to post a picture once it’s here and hung up.

This fountain was a happy little surprise! We turned the corner (after seeing the above Lego butterfly) and found kids playing here. My kids are known for loving water, so they wasted no time getting soaking wet! Good thing it was 90 degrees outside – they were all dry by the time we left an hour later.

A big apple, not to be confused with “the” Big Apple.

Right after I took this one, Lily fell over backwards into a plot of mint leaves. Smelled nice as I struggled to get her out 😉

Oh give me a home, where the buffalo roam… (or bison. Potato, potahto.)

That’s my dad, with my kiddos 🙂

For you bee lovers…. The thing was huge!

We finished our visit by eating some amazing, delicious popsicles! The kids all had Cherry Vanilla (very creamy), and my parents and I got exotic with “Minty Lime Cucumber”. We actually loved that weird sounding concoction and wish we had a recipe for  them! The kids also got a kick out of trying various, raw veggies in the “tasting station”. Everything had just been picked from the gardens!

We had tons of fun in the 2.5-3 hours we spent at Powell Gardens! Highly recommend  the trip out, especially this summer to see the Lego sculptures!
