In honor of what should (it better!) be the hottest day of the year, here in Kansas City, I thought I’d show you a little something.
Back when heat wave number 2 started (we’re now in wave #3 I think), I had a crazy thought. I think I’ll blame said heat on crazy thought.
“What would happen if I put a bunch of our broken crayons into a plastic cup and then left it in the car?”
Turns out, they’ll melt.

Wow.
Picture # 1 was actually taken about a week before picture #2, but the morning that picture #2 was taken those crayons were still in their original form and weren’t soft feeling at all. To melt the crayons, the van needed to be parked in full sun, on asphalt for about 6 hours straight. I took picture # 2 when we got back into the van after day 1 at Silver Dollar City last week. I think the high that day was 101.
While my original experiment (to make them melt at home) didn’t work, due to too much shade and too much driving around with the AC on, it did work eventually!
Makes me wonder what I could melt or cook today when it reaches 108…

Apparently people have successfully baked cookies outside here (Austin, Texas). Makes sense as I’m pretty sure it’s warmer than an easy-bake oven.

Oh wow. I am ready for fall. Not winter, but fall.
and to think that there are parents that will leave kids or pets in a car.
