Get That Mom A Makeover!

Last Friday I had a makeover. Ok, not a full makeover, because I feel like for a makeover to really be a makeover it needs to include a shopping spree for new clothes. Right? I plan to do the new clothes thing on Black Friday, with a fist full of gift cards I’ve been holding onto for just that day. Last Friday though I made over the rest of me… hair, fingers and toes!

So my finger nails grow really quickly, but they didn’t look nice. In fact, thanks to two of them breaking a couple of days before they looked rather dumb.

What a mess. Even more of a mess though, were my feet…

Oh dear. There’s even some polish left from who knows when. I’ll spare you how the bottom of my feet looked – let’s just put it this way, I had never had a pedicure before last Friday…

My hair was getting long and “eh”, and I was getting lazier and lazier with it. Pretty sure it was pulled back into a pony tail for a month straight at least. Time for a change!

Pretty toes! They’re a deep cranberry, sparkly color. Oh, and a pedicure is the greatest thing ever! I’m hooked.

Oh, much better. The color is Black Cherry Chutney, and is a very deep purple with some sparkle to it. Jackson was convinced my nails were still wet because they were so shiny.

I sprang an extra $5 to get the shellac/gel style manicure done. Well worth it I would say! Look at how great they still look 7 days later! The handful of times I’ve gotten manicures before, my nails have been smudged or chipped by the time I get home from the salon, and at 7 days post manicure they would have been terrible looking.

And finally, the hair….

I feel like a new woman!

My little afternoon of beauty was courtesy of a Groupon, and it all took place at a beauty school. Everything took twice as long (at least) as it would have if I’d gone to a regular salon (I was there 3.5 hours!), and while my finger nails weren’t done exceptionally well (she didn’t get very close to my cuticle), they were done well enough for the price.

My haircut was done mostly by the instructor, because it was clear my student wasn’t sure exactly what to do with all of my hair (it’s super thick and there’s a lot of curl in the back). My friend said she could see my student’s hands actually shaking. Good thing I didn’t notice that at the time!

Bottom line: awesome afternoon spent with a great friend and I felt fabulous about myself afterward! Watch for Groupons, ladies and treat yourself to one. You deserve it!
