Chasing A Dream

I have loved photography for years. I can still remember the very first camera I owned (a Vivitar that I got for Christmas when I was a child), and when I finally bought my first DSLR (a Nikon D3000) I felt like I had hit the photography jackpot. I spent hours with my camera and the laptop learning how to use the camera to its fullest potential (it’s not a magic camera – I had to actually learn how to use it as more than a point and shoot). I’ve taken thousands (seriously – I surpassed the 10,000 mark in just over a year) of pictures both for practice and because I love it. Nick calls me the paparazzi and has definitely teased me for my obsessive photographing ways.

For years I’ve thought “wouldn’t it be cool to be a professional photographer?”, and whether “professional” meant focusing on portraits or on landscapes, nature and buildings I didn’t care. To spend your life photographing beautiful or unusual things seemed like a far-off but awesome dream.

Late last fall I started to wonder if I had what it would take to go into the portrait photography business, but considering I was 6 months pregnant at the time I figured it was an idea I should spend some serious time mulling. I mulled and mulled, and mulled some more.

After a whole lot of mulling, talking to friends, talking to photographers, talking to Nick, more mulling, more talking and quite a bit of research thrown in for good measure I decided it was time.

With great excitement, and a healthy amount of fear, I am pleased to introduce Faces You Love Photography. I feel like I’ve had another baby, but with the speed I’m booking sessions I think this baby is going to be forced to grow up rather quickly. You can check out my site here: www.facesyoulove.com and my Facebook page here: www.facebook.com/facesyoulove. If you’re in the Kansas City area, I would be honored to be your photographer (if you don’t already have one of your own, of course)!

I have a hunch life is about to be crazy. I assume things will calm down once the “newness” wears off, but for now I see some late blog posts every so often (like today) as I tend to this newborn. I’ll have to find that happy balance of business, family, blog and me-time. Here’s hoping I don’t fall asleep from exhaustion!
