Celebration of Life

This past Sunday, Nick’s grandfather passed away. It was sudden, unexpected, and sad. This morning was his celebration of life service, and Nick (thanks to a last minute airfare found on Priceline late Tuesday night) was able to fly to Vermont yesterday to be there for it. I’m so glad he was able to travel for it!

From the very first time I met him, he was so welcoming to me! I loved his wit and sense of humor, and I loved the hugs he always gave when he arrived and then left a place. He was sweet, kind, and loving, and will be deeply missed.

Nick sat the boys down and told them what happened and why he might be traveling to Vermont (we hadn’t found a cheap enough ticket yet). This was the first family death since they were born, so it was new ground for us and them. They understood, had some random questions, but then looked their most concerned when Nick said that their Papa (his dad, not his grandfather) was sad. We both found it very sweet that they would be so concerned about the happiness of their own Papa!

Here are some pictures from when we were in Vermont about 4.5 years ago.

And then from our trip this summer, at my brother in law and sister in law’s wedding, which he officiated over. We are even more grateful now that we were able to travel “home” this last summer!
