A Blue’s Clues Party

The boys are obsessed with several things, one of them being the show Blue’s Clues. You know… the one they don’t make any more and was started in the late 90’s? We discovered Blue’s Clues a few months ago when it showed up on our instant watch list through NetFlix and the boys have been hooked ever since. Nick and I just knew we had to have a Blue’s Clues themed birthday party for the boys! Turns out Blue’s Clues party stuff was harder to find than I thought. I got lucky though when I found some paw print stuff at a local party/toy store!

Last year I did some complex cakes (including a 3D Pooh Bear) that took hours for me to decorate, so Nick insisted I take it easy this year. My definition of easy? Making 3 cakes (two of which I split and added chocolate buttercream to the center of) and 12 cupcakes. I arranged them to look like a paw print (which always indicates a “clue” in the TV show).

In retrospect, I wish I’d made bigger cupcakes. The size ratio between the cupcakes and cakes was too big. I also would have been more explicit when I told Tyler to put the present he’d been handed on the OTHER table, not on the table with cakes and resting on top of Chase’s cake. Ha!

The boys were beyond excited this year at their party. They wanted to wear their party hats and have their little blowers pretty much from the moment they got up, but we held them off until guests pulled up in front of the house. They then proceeded to run around yelling things like “Happy Birthday!” or “It’s our birthday!”. They were excited!

Finally, at 10:30 I couldn’t hold off the vultures any longer. They wanted cake! Of course a breeze picked up then, so it was struggle to keep the candles all lit long enough for the boys to blow them out, but we finally had success.

After cake we let the boys tear into a few gifts. That turned out to be more and more entertaining as we went along… they ended up opening 3 games of Chutes and Ladders! Guess a lot of people had the same idea!

The boys definitely had a ball this year on their birthday and I think they’re a little sad it’s all done for another year. Good thing they already know what’s coming next…. school and then trick-or-treating and then Christmas and then a new baby (and that’s what they’ll tell you if you ask them what’s after their birthday)!

Don’t forget to enter the 4 giveaways left from Birthday Month! Winners will be drawn and announced tomorrow morning!
